I used the Informix Embedded SQL precompiler and ANSI C to develop an application on UNIX that implemented an interface between a new client server application and a legacy Honeywell mainframe legacy system. Informix supplies a precompiler that implements all Informix capabilities so the embedded SQL has many extensions and differences from standard ANSI SQL. Informix discourages use of its host language interface over use of the embedded SQL precompiler. Other people were responsible for UNIX and database system administration so my concentration was on the application development.
